Cashmere pony
The story of cashmere is a one of altitude.
On the Himalayan plateau, at four to five thousand metres, goats endure winters of unmatched severity. In response they grow an ultra-fine down of twelve to thirteen microns — rarer and finer than almost any other cashmere.
Each spring the herders of Changthang gather it by hand, as their ancestors did. Sorted, cleansed, spun and woven with deliberate care, it becomes a garment of exceptional softness and enduring nobility: the cloth of a place where little survives, and what does is extraordinary.
